Georgian Bar Association held elections for the Chair of the Association and its governing bodies. As a result of the vote, new members of the Executive Council, the Ethics Commission, and the Audit Commission were elected. The second round of voting to elect the Chair will be held within two weeks, in which two candidates - lawyer Irakli Qandashvili and lawyer Irakli Chomakhashvili - will participate.
A total of 126 candidates participated in the Bar Association elections, including six candidates running for the position of Chair.
The Bar Association conducted the elections fully electronically, using voting machines, ensuring maximum transparency. The electoral process was observed by 46 observers representing chairmanship candidates and non-governmental organizations.
The manual recount of the chairmanship candidates’ ballots (votes received) was carried out by a Vote Counting Commission composed of 15 lawyers elected at the General Assembly. This process verified the results produced by the electronic vote-counting machines, in accordance with the Regulations of the General Assembly.
Throughout the election process, no violations occurred and no complaints were recorded.
In total, 2,752 members of the Association participated in the elections.
The votes for the chairmanship candidates were distributed as follows:
Irakli Kandashvili – 1,269 votes
Irakli Chomakhashvili – 1,106 votes
Mukhran Ghurtskaia – 301 votes
Giorgi Mariamidze – 8 votes
Manuchar Chumburidze – 8 votes
Nikoloz Kvantrishvili – 7 votes
